Why this matters

A policy changes behaviour only when it assigns responsibility.

A policy that only states intent leaves the hard questions open: who is accountable, what behaviour is expected, and what happens when the standard is breached. This template is built around those three questions. It connects inclusion to your legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010, sets behavioural standards in plain terms, and gives senior leaders, line managers, HR and every employee a defined role.

Key points
  1. Responsibility is assigned by role, from senior leaders to every employee, so accountability does not default to HR.
  2. Behaviour is defined in both directions: what is expected, and what will not be tolerated.
  3. Example wording for every section, ready to adapt to your organisation.
